A hormone specialist is an endocrinologist — a doctor with higher specialist training in the glands and hormones of the body: the thyroid, the pituitary, the adrenal glands, the ovaries and testes, the parathyroid glands, and the pancreas in relation to diabetes. Your GP manages the common presentations and initiates first-line treatment; an endocrinologist is involved when the diagnosis is unclear, when standard treatment is not working, when results are borderline or contradictory, or when a condition is uncommon or complex. Dr Kazmi works alongside your GP, not instead of them, and a clinic letter goes back after every visit.
Common reasons for referral include: unexplained tiredness, weight change or temperature intolerance with abnormal thyroid tests; irregular or absent periods, excess hair growth or acne suggesting PCOS; low mood, low libido, poor energy and low morning testosterone in men; episodes of sweating, palpitations or high blood pressure that could be adrenal; high blood calcium; excessive thirst and urination; galactorrhoea or visual changes suggesting a pituitary problem; and early or unexplained osteoporosis. Persistent symptoms with a normal first-line blood panel are also a reasonable reason to seek a specialist opinion.
Thyroid disease (underactive and overactive thyroid, Hashimoto's, Graves' disease, nodules); PCOS and female hormone disorders; male hypogonadism and testosterone replacement; adrenal conditions (incidentalomas, Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, primary aldosteronism); pituitary conditions (prolactinoma, acromegaly, hypopituitarism); parathyroid and calcium disorders including hyperparathyroidism; osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease; obesity and metabolic syndrome; and all forms of diabetes. Cardiology is provided by Dr Kalyar within the same clinic.
For most endocrine problems, the assessment is driven by a detailed history and by blood tests rather than by a physical examination, so a video consultation is clinically equivalent for diagnosis and for ongoing management. The situations that need an in-person visit are specific: examination of the thyroid gland or a neck lump, examination in suspected Cushing's or acromegaly, and any test that must be done on site. When that applies, Dr Kazmi arranges the in-person appointment in Naas as the next step.
The tests depend on the suspected problem — for example thyroid function and antibodies, a morning testosterone with LH, FSH and prolactin, an adrenal or pituitary hormone panel, calcium and parathyroid hormone, or an HbA1c. Dr Kazmi specifies exactly what is needed and, in most cases, these are arranged locally to you through your GP or a local laboratory, with the results reviewed at a short follow-up. Where a dynamic (stimulation or suppression) test or specific imaging is required, the appropriate pathway is explained.
Yes. Consultations are available by secure video or phone to adults anywhere in the Republic of Ireland, most weekday evenings between 16:00 and 19:00. In-person appointments run in Naas, Co. Kildare on Saturdays and Sundays. Where a physical examination or an on-site test is needed, the in-person visit is arranged as a follow-up to the video consultation rather than instead of it.
No. Both self-referral and GP referral are accepted for all consultations. A GP referral letter is useful because it provides your history, medication list and recent results, and can be sent securely to the clinic through Healthmail, but it is not required to book.
Yes. A clinic letter setting out the assessment, findings and plan is sent to your GP after every consultation, in person or online, so your primary care team can continue shared care and issue or adjust prescriptions locally where appropriate.
An initial consultant appointment is €230 and a follow-up is €150, the same whether you are seen in person in Naas or online by video. This is a self-pay clinic. Patients with private health insurance may be able to claim outpatient consultant benefits depending on their policy, and should confirm eligibility directly with their insurer before booking.
