Finding a Cardiologist in Co. Kildare: What to Expect

← Back to Blog

Finding a specialist cardiologist close to home has historically meant a long journey to Dublin or a lengthy wait on a public hospital list. Patients from Naas, Newbridge, Athy, Celbridge, Leixlip, Maynooth and across Co. Kildare now have access to a consultant interventional cardiologist on their doorstep — with Saturday & Sunday & Sunday appointments and short waiting times.

What Does a Consultant Cardiologist Do?

A consultant cardiologist is a specialist physician who diagnoses and manages diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The title "interventional cardiologist" denotes additional training in procedures such as coronary angioplasty and stenting — collectively known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Dr Kalyar has performed over 1,400 PCIs during his career at leading cardiac centres in the UK and Ireland.

Not all cardiology appointments involve procedures. The majority are diagnostic and management consultations — assessing symptoms, reviewing investigations, adjusting medications, and providing specialist oversight for patients with existing cardiac conditions. For most patients, the first appointment is an in-depth consultation with examination and an ECG.

When Should You See a Cardiologist?

There are many reasons a GP or patient may seek a cardiology opinion. Common referral reasons include:

Your GP can refer directly via Healthmail. Patients may also self-refer privately — no GP referral is required to book an appointment at Naas Cardiology & Endocrinology Clinic.

What Happens at Your First Appointment?

The first consultation at Naas Cardiology & Endocrinology Clinic is comprehensive. Dr Kalyar takes a detailed clinical history covering your cardiac symptoms, cardiovascular risk factors, current medications, family history, and lifestyle. A full cardiovascular examination is performed.

A 12-lead ECG is performed at the clinic during the consultation. Depending on presenting symptoms, further investigations may be arranged:

GP Referral

GP referrals are welcomed via Healthmail (info@naascardioendocrineclinic.ie). Patients can also self-refer directly. A comprehensive clinic letter is returned to your GP within 5–7 working days of each appointment.
